The Latest in Human Evolution

Nephew Benjamin just celebrated his second metric birthday (100 days) and we have discovered that he is enraptured by guitar-playing. He stares with wide eyes and mouth agape; first at the right hand, the hand that is rhythmically moving in time with the sound; then the face, the thing that moves and makes a different sound; then the left hand, the thing that moves when the sound changes. If I had been outfitted with sound-responsive, color-changing LEDs, he would have gone into stimulation overload.

It's really neat; he was rapt for the entire twenty minutes I was playing. Until he wet himself thoroughly. Then it was bath time, feeding time, and bed time. I'll avoid any prolonged discussion of his rapid development, or weight/length percentiles in favor of skipping straight to the pictures.

Alas, it always ends when he wets himself.

For some reason, I still see that one shot of Master Benjamin as being in a mixing bowl, and that is disturbing.

It reminds me of when we still hadn't gotten food stamps, you were about stewing size, and we were all craving tacos...
